The Galaxy S6 Edge is just as bendable as the iPhone 6 Plus

According to a test run by an insurance company in the United States, the latest and greatest smartphone from Samsung is just as bendable as the iPhone 6 Plus – and we know what a furore that caused.

SquareTrade has posted a YouTube video direct from its labs to show the effects of intensive pressure on the best smartphones that Samsung, Apple and HTC have got to offer in 2015.

Don’t panic too much though – this is just one company’s findings, and SquareTrade itself admits that it doesn’t signify ‘Bendgate 2’. The firm’s machinery can put phones under much more pressure than the average smartphone user.

Absolutely shattered

First up in the video is the iPhone 6 Plus. It bent under 110 pounds of pressure and reached its breaking point – catastrophic failure – at 179 pounds. The HTC One M9, meanwhile, bent and broke at 120 pounds of pressure (as the power button is in the centre, once it bends it’s game over).

And finally, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. The flagship handset with a curved display started to bend at 110 pounds of pressure, like Apple’s smartphone, and broke apart entirely at 149 pounds. The glass screen started to shatter fairly early on though.

If bendability is high on your list of factors to consider when buying a new smartphone then it’s useful information to have. Otherwise, it’s still fun to see expensive hardware getting shattered under lab conditions. Check out the video in full below:
